How did 10KSB help you?
What I loved most about being a part of the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program is learning how to create a very special niche for myself within the travel industry. I researched what my competitors were offering, and felt I needed to offer more in the tours I was selling to my prospective guests. The itineraries I create are very soulful, immersive journeys to different parts of the world. Each component of the trip I put together is very well thought out with a deep sense of purpose. For me travel is not just a stamp on the passport, but a life-changing experience.
Tell us about a challenge you’ve faced in your business.
The one challenge I have faced within my industry is gaining a better understanding about how to market my business. It is even tougher when one is an unknown quantity, going up against the bigger players in the arena.
What do you enjoy about being a small business owner?
Being a small business owner, my organization is more compact and my colleagues (I do not consider them my employees) are more like family and teammates. Our guests or potential guests have direct access to me, and ultimately become my friends who wish to travel through A Classic Tours Collection.
Since graduating from the 10KSB Program, is there an accomplishment or goal you’re particularly proud of achieving?
The one accomplishment I am most proud of since graduating is that I have teamed up with a formidable PR company called Handle Your Own PR, owned by another small business owner, Krista Bordner. We work together to send out press releases. And, we’ve also come up with a brilliant idea to write travel articles and send them sent to various media forums. One never knows which door will lead to success!
